Recently several Board and community members met with high-level representatives from Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), Fuerza Pública (police) and the Fiscalía Santa Cruz (prosecution) to discuss crime and security concerns here in Playa Hermosa.

According to their records based on denuncias filed, we live “in a haven of tranquility.” Only 33 crimes were recorded in 3 years here in Playa Hermosa, in the eyes of OIJ. Most of us know that this number does not reflect the reality. The reason for this is because crime victims are failing to file denuncias.

They left us with new tools to make it easier and more convenient to do our civic duties. That is to say, to report crimes and file denuncias.

1. Always call 911 to report an emergency.

2. Always call 311 to report non-emergencies.

3. According to an agreement reached at the meeting, residents of Playa Hermosa no longer have to travel to OIJ in Liberia to file denuncias. They may now file denuncias at the police station in El Coco.

4.  ANONYMOUS COMPLAINTS may be made by calling 800-8000-645. Your identity will not be divulged by OIJ, thus protecting you from potential repercussions by the person/entity against whom you are filing the complaint. You can also send an email via computer or smartphone with photos to lfonsecah@poder_judicial.go.cr or oij-lib@poder_judicial.go.cr. Again, you remain anonymous.

It is important for victims of crimes here in Playa Hermosa to report them and, if necessary, to file denuncias. Law enforcement officials have no way of addressing a crime problem if it appears none exists (because people are failing to report crimes).

Recientemente, varios miembros de la Junta Directiva y la comunidad se reunieron con representantes de alto nivel de Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), Fuerza Pública (policía) y la Fiscalía Santa Cruz (fiscalía) para discutir la delincuencia y los problemas de seguridad aquí en Playa Hermosa.

Según a sus registros basados en denuncias presentadas, vivimos “en un remanso de tranquilidad.” Sólo 33 crímenes se registraron en 3 años aquí en Playa Hermosa, a los ojos del OIJ. La mayoría de nosotros sabemos que este número no refleja la realidad. La razón de esto se debe a que las víctimas de delitos no están logrando presentar denuncias.

Nos dejaron con nuevas herramientas para hacer más fácil y más conveniente nuestros deberes cívicos. Es decir, a denunciar los delitos y hacer denuncias.

1. Siempre llame al 911 para reportar una emergencia.

2. Siempre llame al 311 para reportar que no son emergencias.

3. Según un acuerdo alcanzado en la reunión, los residentes de Playa Hermosa ya no tienen que viajar a la OIJ en Liberia a presentar denuncias. Ellos ahora pueden presentar denuncias en la comisaría en El Coco.

4. LAS DENUNCIAS ANÓNIMAS se pueden hacer llamando al 800-8000-645. Su identidad no será divulgada por OIJ, protegiéndole así de posibles repercusiones por parte de la persona / entidad contra la cual usted está presentando la queja. También puede enviar un correo electrónico a través de la computadora o smartphone con fotos para lfonsecah@poder_judicial.go.cr o oij-lib@poder_judicial.go.cr. Una vez más, usted permanece en el anonimato.

Es importante para las víctimas de crímenes de aquí en Playa Hermosa a informar y, si es necesario, para hacer denuncias. Los oficiales de policía no tienen manera de hacer frente a un problema de la delincuencia si aparece no existe ninguno (porque las personas están fallando a denunciar los delitos).
